MEDIUM:

Fused and sculptured glass

ARTIST STATEMENT:

I've had an attraction to glass all my life. I'm fascinated with light's ethereal interaction with glass. That's the main appeal of glass for me. Stained glass had been my medium since 1973, but after a class taken in 2003, I became enamored with the glass-fusing process and have continued using that medium ever since. The technical aspects of using heat, metals and chemicals with glass appeals to me as well and also challenges my creativity.

I particularly love making functional pieces that are also artworks. It's gratifying to me that my pieces can be enjoyed every day…a bowl that brings visual joy before being used for a salad or a big plate, admired before filling with pasta…food for the soul as well as the body.

I plan to continue exploring the many facets of glass, using new types, techniques and processes…I may never have a cohesive body of work because I'm tempted by all that is new and would like to try it all!
